If you want to play, there's plenty to play with
here......
If you want entertainment, there's plenty to do in
Chiang Mai.
Whether you're a tourist or a resident, there are
a host of amusements to get involved in here.
You can enjoy a game at one of several top class golf
courses
or
go Game Fishing, Mountain Biking or Kayaking.
If you feel really brave you can Bungy Jump or go
Zip-Line Riding.
Maybe you feel like Bowling or Go-Karting
- perhaps White Water Rafting
?
All these attractions and many more are available
here.
Now, I have to admit I haven't played golf at any
of these courses because however hard I try, I can't hit the ball
(actually, I did once, but that's another
story). My golfing friends
however, have recommended these courses.
I feel I also ought to tell you that I have
definitely not done a bungy jump, mountain biking or white water
rafting.
Game fishing to me is unutterably boring, but I know some
people like doing it, so I've included it. Bowling I can do and I even
got a strike once, but don't tell anybody, they won't believe you!
Zip-line riding is also too energetic for me, but
Go-karting is different. I love go-karting and I can recommend it
highly, even for an old dog like me.

More games to play......
Of course, for all us couch
potatoes...
there's
always T.V.. The Thais are crazy about the English Premier League
football and there are plenty of wonderful intelligent Chelsea
supporters here. I've also noticed the occasional Manchester United and
Liverpool banners and I've even come across an Arsenal fan, can you
believe it?
ADSL Internet is
available here in the towns and cities. Wi-Fi Internet and
satellite connections are also available.
Thai
T.V. is free here and they have a number of channels, namely 3, 5, 7
and 9, which broadcast news, sport and the usual game shows and soaps,
of course in the Thai language. Here they also have English
speaking subscriber satellite transmissions from True Visions and of
course it's possible to pick up satellites from all over the world if
you have the equipment.
Multi-screen cinemas are located in the main
shopping plazas.
At Airport Plaza and at Central (Kad Suan Kaew,
see my Shopping
page) shopping centres you will find up-to-date cinemas showing the
latest offererings from Hollywood and around the world. By Western
standards the prices are quite reasonable and the facilities are
excellent. At Central there is also the local Kad Theatre, featuring
ballet, music, arts and theatre productions throughout the year.
A
visit to the
Chiang Mai Puppet Playhouse offers the chance to learn something
of the history of North Thailand, once known as the Kingdom of
Lanna. The puppets are locally made and are amazingly lifelike during a
series of sketches that tell Buddhist folk tales. The performance is
accompanied by live local musicians, and the Northern Thai dialogue is
explained by a narrative in English. The show only lasts for 45
minutes, but will provide memories to last a lifetime. The playhouse is
located behind the Contemporary Art Museum. Admission: Adults THB250,
children 11-15 THB100, children 5-10 THB80 |
